                         Commonwealth game



The origin of Commonwealth Game dete back to 1911 when a need was felt to organise an international sports event In order to bring the colonies of British empire I.e., the present day commonwealth nations together.
            The commonwealth games is an international,miltisport event involving athletes from commonwealth nations. The event was first held in 1930 under the title of the british empire games in Canada and it gained it's current title in 1978.
                                                   There are currently 54 members of the commonwealth of nations and 71 teams participating in the games.Australia is the highest achieving nation.
The  sports involved are athletics, badminton, tennis , rowing , shooting,synchronised swimming , water polo,weight lifting, hockey, gymnastics,to name a few.
           This grand event is held once in every four years. The queen's baton relay actually kick starts the countdown for the commonwealth games. It starts from Buckingham palace and carries a message from the chairperson of the commonwealth games. At the end of the relay, the baton is handed over to the queen and the games are declared open after the message is read.
